Steinberg Media Technologies has announced a new version of its Nuendo audio production environment

mary | 25 October, 2007 08:52

Steinberg has announced a new version of its Nuendo 4 audio production environment. Offering a range of new features and technologies dedicated to mixers, engineers and editors in post production, studio recording and live recording, Nuendo 4 academic pricing will be available from October 2007. Nuendo 4 is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and both Intel and PPC-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS10.4.

"Nuendo 4 empowers audio professionals by elevating both creativity and productivity to new heights," comments Steinberg's General Manager Andreas Stelling. "The new functionality accelerates and enhances workflows by increasing efficiency and speed, offering probably the most valuable commodity in today's deadline-driven world: more time. And because Nuendo 4 caters directly to audio post and studio production, Steinberg is now in the unique position of being able to offer dedicated products for four different target groups: Nuendo for the post and pro audio community, Cubase for musicians, composers and producers, WaveLab for audio editors and mastering engineers, and Sequel for entry-level music creation enthusiasts."

Among the new functionality in Nuendo 4 is a state-of-the-art new automation system. Preview mode, Fill commands, Punch Logs, Virgin Territories and the unique new Touch Collect Assistant are only some of the new functions which unite the best functionality found on traditional hardware mixing consoles with the flexibility inherent in Nuendo 4 as a modern DAW environment.

The new MediaBay file management system for audio, video and other media files can replace many external FX database solutions. MediaBay browses, archives, retrieves and searches media files across any connected drive. Utilizing intelligent database technology, user-definable tags and other features MediaBay allows instant pulling up and filtering of search results, smart file management and much more.

Nuendo 4 sees a vastly upgraded set of 38 new first-class surround- and sidechaining-capable VST3 audio effect plug-ins that cover dynamics, spatial FX and filtering for almost any situation. Standard on each channel is a brand new VST3 Channel EQ, with an audio quality that can replace many expensive additional 3rd party EQ plug-ins. Drag & drop and copy/paste for plug-ins make using plug-ins in Nuendo 4 even faster and more efficient.

Nuendo 4 offers a range of features designed specifically to accelerate and enhance workflows in audio post production. Advanced post pro editing commands allow even faster editing workflows, including many new options to move, place and trim audio faster and with outstanding precision to save valuable time. The highly flexible Post Filter is engineered specifically for audio post, and features special options to remove unwanted noises form audio material, for example from location recording.

Flexible new recording and routing options offer creative new ways to route and manipulate audio, with any track now able to record audio from any summing object such as groups or FX returns. Common recording configurations such as stems and print master recording are now extremely easy to setup, obviating the need to route audio outside the system for recording on external recorders.

Imaginova Releases Starry Night Elementary School

mary | 24 October, 2007 10:46

Imaginova, a leading science and technology digital media and commerce company, has released Starry Night Elementary School, a ground-breaking space science curriculum solution for grades K-4. The software was created for first-time science teachers and experienced instructors searching for a visually captivating and academically rigorous method to introduce astronomy to elementary school students. Each lesson follows science content standards, engages multiple learning styles and seamlessly relates to other subject areas such as language arts, fine arts, math and social studies.

"Imaginova is committed to supporting a higher standard of teaching science in the classroom. We developed a curriculum, based on our award winning Starry Night Elementary School software, that exposes elementary school children to earth- and space-science concepts. This will help young students grasp more abstract topics relating to astronomy in the future," said Seth Meyers, Vice President and General Manager, Imaginova Studios. "Equally important are the tools we offer educators to create fun and engaging lesson plans while meeting education standards and requirements."

Starry Night Elementary School helps teachers fulfill their curriculum requirements through in-depth lesson plans that correlate with national and state curriculum standards. Professional science educators developed the lessons, which were then tested in classrooms. The astronomy and earth science topics are suitable for each grade level and include concepts like day and night, the motion of the sky, our solar system and constellations. The lessons are supplemented by DVD multimedia content, interactive computer exercises and simulations, hands-on activities and reproducible materials. The data from Starry Night Elementary School software, including the new elementary version, can be displayed on Spitz's SciDome and Learning Technology Inc.'s STARLAB digital planetariums.

"Planetariums have always provided some of the most enduring, powerful astronomy experiences. One of the coolest features of Starry Night Elementary School is that students can create their own presentations in the classroom and then see them displayed on a big planetarium dome. It can be a truly unforgettable moment and educational experience," says Scott Huggins, Marketing Director for Spitz Inc.

Starry Night Elementary School is the newest addition to Imaginova's highly regarded line of Educational Science Simulation products. Starry Night High School and Starry Night Middle School are the leading Astronomy products in the US and Canada. Imaginova Starry Night software is Windows® XP and Macintosh® OS X 10.3 and 10.4 compatible.

ACDSee 10 Photo Manager

mary | 19 October, 2007 16:10

ACD Systems unveiled ACDSee 10 Photo Manager today, the latest update to its popular photo organization and sharing software. Improved features combine to make ACDSee 10 Photo Manager the most powerful and affordably priced tool available for seamless integration with photo sharing sites such as Flickr and SmugMug, as well as cameras and other devices. Additional features include real-time viewing, management and editing of multiple image files, even in large albums and photo collections.

“Our number-one goal with ACDSee 10 Photo Manager is to help people make the most of their photos and the digital devices they use every day,” said Mark Franklin, executive vice president of ACD Systems. “The pace of sharing images moves faster as technology advances. People want easy-to-use tools to organize, edit and share files. ACDSee 10 Photo Manager is designed to make it simple to manage growing digital image libraries, share photos with friends and family and explore creative possibilities.”

Integration with External Devices and Photo Sharing Platforms

Once images are indexed by ACDSee 10 Photo Manager’s database, the new, online Uploader tool is optimized to share them quickly and easily through Flickr, Smugmug and other popular photo sharing Web sites. Frequent updates to the Uploader will include access to additional photo sharing sites and features.
The new ACDSee Photo Widget makes it simple to add a slideshow of photos or layouts to a Web page or blog and is powered by ACDSee 10 Photo Manager’s free album-hosting service, SendPix. Images can also be directly exported to Microsoft Office® PowerPoint® or PDF documents, and files can be sent by e-mail directly from ACDSee software without the need for time-consuming resizing of images. With ACDSee 10 Photo Manager, it’s also easy to create CDs, DVDs, prints and more at home or online.

For easy downloading, ACDSee 10 Photo Manager’s “smart” features import, rename and categorize new photos automatically upon connecting a camera, camera phone or other device to one’s computer. Files can be unzipped within the software, which is designed for viewing and organizing archived items in one step. The time-saving PhotoDisc feature allows users to view thumbnails and manage images stored on external media without the need to first copy files to their hard drives.

Viewing and Organizing Made Quick and Easy

Photo Manager’s new Instant Preview feature allows users to simply scroll a mouse over thumbnails for instant viewing of images right in the browser. The new virtual Photo Calendar tool allows for instinctive searching of photos or other digital assets, such as scrapbooking kits, by viewing images by date on a friendly, calendar-like interface. As with previous Photo Manager releases, using Quick View mode also means no waiting to view files.

Help Me 2 Learn announces Language Arts Review 3a & 3b

mary | 17 October, 2007 08:24

Help Me 2 Learn is excited to announce that their recently released programs, Language Arts Review 3a - Advanced Level (School Version) & Language Arts Review 3b - Advanced Level II (School Version) have been awarded the iParenting Media Award for 2007.  Products submitted for this award are evaluated by a team of reviewers incorporating objective standards of measurement. Outside reviews were performed by a licensed childcare facility/school, an expert and a parent.

"It's an interest catching little program. We put it on thinking that it might be a bit too mature for our preference, but we soon found out it's not at all. There are so many features and choices for games and activities."  (iParenting Media Awards' Reviewer)

Language Arts Review 3a - Advanced Level (School Version) & Language Arts Review 3b - Advanced Level II (School Version) is great for students who are hard to motivate and who haven't mastered some of the basic language arts skills that everyone needs to be able to read fluently. They build important reading and reading comprehension skills that will last forever. These programs feature graphics especially suited to those students who are a little older, and are a great tool to help struggling students catch-up.
