Tom Snyder Releases New Improved Science Court Software

mary | 07 February, 2007 15:00

Tom Snyder Productions is releasing a new, improved version of its award-winning, research-based software series, Science Court 2.0®. The program helps elementary students build lasting understanding of science topics through guided discussion and fun, hands-on learning.

Science Court 2.0 draws on decades of research to help students overcome common misconceptions in science by replacing them with lasting, correct understanding. The software incorporates research-based instruction, hands-on learning, and multimedia to systematically tackle scientific fallacies (e.g., that seasons are caused by the distance of the Earth from the Sun). The program literally puts these ideas on trial in a whole-class setting, creating a structured opportunity for students to use scientific evidence to debunk mistaken beliefs. Through the use of written worksheets, classroom discussion, and hands-on activities, students construct solid scientific understanding of hard-to-teach concepts.

SYSTAT Software, Inc (SSI) offers $1,000,000 in software grants to schools in North America

mary | 07 February, 2007 14:10

These grants consist of nine multi-user perpetual licenses and one year of free upgrades for any SYSTAT product including SigmaPlot and SigmaStat. To qualify, schools must purchase one full copy of the software that includes all current reference manuals and program distribution disks. They must also submit an application letter and complete a form describing their installation plans for the software. The application letter must state that the receiving department does not currently offer courses that include SSI software. The letter must also include the course title, dates, credit offered, and the instructor's name.

Grant applications will be accepted by CCV Software until March 31, 2007, or until the $1,000,000 budget is expended, whichever comes first. Application reviews will be complete within two weeks of receipt of completed applications. Software will be delivered soon after approval.

SYSTAT's licensing program offers cumulative discounts. Schools may count the licenses included in their grant when purchasing additional licenses. SSI's tiered pricing provides greater discounts as the number of licenses increases. SigmaPlot licenses at the 5-10 level sell for $224.55 each, and at the 11-20 level they sell for $149.70. Additional licenses may be purchased at any time.
